I spent some time in Decentraland over the weekend taking part in the first MegaCube event. I thought it might be a good advertising opportunity for OctoFi down the road as there is quite a bit of activity and large attendance so far.
MegaCube is a large 3D Cube made up of 6 sides that have 50x50 cells on each face to start. Players mine these cells by clicking them 3x each until no cells remain on any of the 6 faces or sides. Once the 6 sides are empty, the cube sheds a layer and the process begins again until all 50 layers are complete and one person finds a massive prize in the final middle cell.
Sounds good for one person, but, how does this benefit all players as well as OctoFi, right? Well, with each mined cell you have a chance of winning a prize as there is one per side per layer supplied by that layers sponsor. The cube itself is massive and OctoFi could put up to 6 memes/advertisements on each of the cubes sides as well as giving away an NFT/gift per side. Layers seem to last around 1.5 to 3 hours depending on how many players are mining (currently MegaCube is on layer 15 and the event started Jan 29 9PM UTC). There are extra advertisement areas for sponsors around the base of the cube that show during all 50 layers too. As an additional attraction some layers have an ERC-20 mined with each cell. I noticed a 30-40% bump in attendance for these layers. One sponsor supplied around $125 of their token per side or roughly $750 overall ($0.05 USD/cell with 2500 cells/side on 6 sides). Another sponsor made it so roughly every third cell dropped and ERC-20 valued around $0.04 ($200 overall).
I'm not sure if there are or what other costs might be associated but wanted to bring this up so we can all discuss. Thoughts?
Thanks for your time and hope you all are doing well! 🙂
